Veterans Committee Delivers Firewood to Keizer Veteran

Our IBEW Local 659 Veterans Committee is helping keep a local veteran warm this winter.

This past week, a crew removed several dead snags that were ready to become firewood, and the team got permission to give the wood away. On Friday, Veterans Committee Chair and Journeyman David Yost and Hondo Guerrero, a Foreman with Wright Tree Service, headed out to Stayton, Oregon, to cut it up. They then hauled it to Hondo’s property to split.

When a veteran reached out to David for help, he was able to deliver the firewood right to her home in Keizer.

That veteran is Kay Waldrop, who served 21 years in the Army and is a 100% disabled veteran. She sent along this note:

“My name is Kay Waldrop. I’ve lived in Keizer for 11 years. I was in the Military for 21 years (Go Army). I’m also a 100 percent Disabled Veteran. IBEW Veterans Committee has helped me this winter providing firewood. David Yost was my point of contact. I’m very lucky and appreciate the help. Wood is 4 times more expensive in this area compared to Bandon, Oregon, where I grew up. It’s very hard to ask for help. These days there’s so much negativity, crime and just bad things everywhere. It warms my heart to find good people that will help Veterans. Thank you. Respectfully, Kay Waldrop”

Thank you to David and Hondo for giving their time and effort, and thank you, Kay, for your service to our country. Our Veterans Committee is proud to support those who served.
