Journeyman linemen build and maintain electrical power systems, working on overhead structures up to 500'+ or underground vaults and trenches. This 3-4 year apprenticeship covers all of Oregon, Washington, Northern Idaho, and Northern California under the four-local agreement (IBEW Locals 77, 125, 483 & 659).

REQUIRED

  • Valid CDL (Class A, air brake/tractor-trailer)
  • First Aid/CPR certification (annual renewal)
  • Traffic Control Flagging Card‍
  • Sealed High School Transcript or GED/HSED
  • 18 years or older

RECOMMENDED

  • Past outside electrical experience‍
  • Crane Operator / Heavy Equipment certifications

Powerline clearance tree trimming is the maintenance of power line rights-of-way — tree pruning, removal, and brush clearing near high-voltage energized lines, often at heights of 20-100 feet. This is a 2-year apprenticeship: about 4,000 hours of on-the-job training plus 288 hours of related instruction, working exclusively outdoors year-round.

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Traffic Control Flagging Card

RECOMMENDED

  • CDL or CDL Permit (CLP required 90 days in; full CDL by 3,000 hours)
  • Pesticide, ISA certification, Forestry Degree, or Red Card

Crater Lake Electrical JATC, established in 1967, trains apprentices to install conduit, wiring, fixtures, and electrical equipment in homes, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities — from new wiring and green-power installs to low-voltage and fire alarm systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age or older
  • HS Diploma (2.0 GPA min) or GED with qualifying NCRC score
  • One year of Algebra 2+ (C or better), College Math 60, or placement into Math 65
  • NCRC score: 6 (platinum) Math & Workplace Docs, 4 (silver) Graphic Literacy

APPLICATION PROCESS

45 days to complete and return your application after receiving it. A complete application (with official NCRC results) leads to an interview with the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. You are then ranked and placed on the list based on your interview score, experience, education, and NCRC score.

Jurisdiction: Most of Douglas County, all of Harney, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath & Lake counties (OR), plus Modoc & Siskiyou counties (CA) — apprentices won't be required to work more than 50 miles from home.
