Why Be Union?
Updated On: Feb 28, 2009 (11:10:00)

The first objective of the IBEW is to Organize all the workers in the entire electrical industry. IBEW Local 659 encourages all electrical workers to unite and join the IBEW, because by being united we improve wages, benefits and working conditions for all in the electrical industry. If you have any questions about your rights as a worker or wish to speak to an organizer about joining the IBEW contact Jon Flegel at (541)601-0843 or e-mail  jon@ibew659.org

MONEY

Local 659 Electricians make the highest wages in the area. $29.78/hr.

Health care

Local 659 members have health plans that cover themselves and their dependents. The contractor pays for these health plans.

Pension

All Local 659 contracts have pension plans. This ensures that when you retire from your trade you leave with the dignity that hard working trades' people deserve.

Safety

Saftey is a major concern on all construction sites. Local 659 Electricians are trained to use the latest safety practices.  All companies and most job sites have a qualified safety person to ensure safe work practices. We want our people to go home to their families every night.

Unionize your work place

Are you tired of being told to wait for your paycheck until the contractor gets paid?  Have you worked for more than 40/hrs in a week for staight time?  Are your tired of using your own truck, power tools and sometimes material for your employers jobs?

*IBEW Electricians are paid every week

*IBEW Electricians are paid for all hours worked

*IBEW Electricians only bring their hand tools to the job site. Contractors supply the trucks, power tools and all of the material you need to do your job properly.

If you work for an employer whose workers are not part of a union and you want to help build a union in your workplace contact Jon Flegel or email jon@ibew659.org and we'll immediately put you in contact with our organizer who can talk to you about the union and what it takes to organize.
